ACTFR firefighter recruitment, explained

ACT Fire & Rescue runs through the Emergency Services Agency in Canberra. The beep-test cut-off (10.6) is one of the strictest in the country — train past it, not to it. ACTFR uses numbered College intakes rather than annual recruit campaigns, so plan around the cycle when it opens.

ACTFR recruitment FAQ

What is the ACTFR beep test cut-off?

ACT Fire & Rescue requires a Beep Test level 10.6 — one of the strictest in the country. The cut-off is a hard line: 10.5 doesn't progress. Train past 11.0 so you have a comfortable margin on the day.

How often does ACTFR open a College intake?

ACTFR runs College intakes approximately every 12 to 24 months when workforce planning identifies a need, with small cohort sizes (typically 12 to 20 recruits). It is not an annual campaign.

Can ACTFR recruits be posted outside the ACT?

No. ACT Fire & Rescue postings stay within the ACT. There is no interstate transfer requirement, but also no operational pathway out of the territory inside ACTFR.
